Garrett Smithley will return to the NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday Afternoon for the Food City presents the Supermarket Heroes 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, but he won’t be driving for the same team he has in his seven previous starts this season.

Smithley will pilot the No. 77 for Spire Motorsports at Bristol, who in a technical alliance with Rick Ware Racing, has been housing RWR drivers when the team’s three seats have already been filled. Spire has been host to J.J. Yeley this season, as well as non-RWR drivers Ross Chastain and Reed Sorenson.

Smithley, the 28-year old from Ligonier, PA was announced to be running the majority of the schedule for Rick Ware Racing in 2020 and has run seven out of eight races for the team in 2020.

This wont be the first time Smithley will work with Spire Motorsports and crew chief Peter Sospenzo, as Smithley ran four races in the No. 77 in 2019, with a best finish of 32nd at Texas Motor Speedway.
