Landon Huffman, who recently swept a twin race weekend in a late model at Hickory Speedway earlier in the month, will attempt to to pick up some hardware this weekend as he’ll be driving the No. 21 GMS Racing Chevrolet Camaro Late Model in the Hickory Speedway NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Twin 40 races.

Huffman tells TobyChristie.com that he was originally slated to run the GMS Racing machine at Tri-County Speedway this weekend, but a Hoosier tire shortage led to those races being canceled. Huffman and GMS pivoted and opted to run at Hickory, instead.

Huffman says he had no plans to run for GMS Racing until a cold call during one of Huffman’s twitch live streams from Clay Rogers, the team’s crew chief.

“I was middle of my stream on Tuesday and GMS called me and asked me to drive their stuff this weekend,” said Huffman.

After a few minutes of working out details, the North Carolina-native and the team came to terms on a deal to put Huffman behind the wheel this weekend.

Obviously, this is an incredible opportunity for the 25-year old driver, who has attempted climbing his way into the NASCAR National Series ranks over the last few years.

“This is certainly the best opportunity I’ve ever had in a late model,” explained Huffman. “By far the best equipment I’ve ever driven. I actually get tires to mock up on and practice on. I don’t usually get that. The car is really nice. I get to work with Clay Rogers, he’s the crew chief of that program. Me and Clay have a great relationship. He’s obviously a decorated short track racer and has made it to the high ranks and won his fair share of races and all sorts of things. To work with him is going to be really cool.”

Huffman has made five-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts with a best finish of 16th coming at Bristol in 2019. Now, there is hope that if he can have another stout run, this time in GMS Racing’s equipment, perhaps some doors will open. Regardless if this blossoms into more opportunity for the racer, Huffman will have a blast doing what he loves most this weekend — racing.

In addition to his short track racing career, Huffman also has a budding career as an eSports streamer and is taking a run at being a professional iRacer through his Total Advantage eSports organization. Huffman is also part of Windshield Deep, which produce podcasts and also cover the local short track scene around the South East.
