NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Slim Jim 200 Practice Results (Martinsville)

Since joining the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Layne Riggs has shown himself to be one of the best short track racers on the circuit. Ahead of Friday’s Slim Jim 200 at Martinsville Speedway, Riggs proved that to be true once again.

In the third (and final) event in the semi-final round of the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs, Riggs, who sits below the cutline, paced the series’ sole practice session from the half-mile paperclip, clocking in at 20.102 seconds.

Ben Rhodes, Matt Crafton, and Ty Majeski, a trio of teammates from ThorSport Racing, sat second, third, and fourth. Of those three teammates, only Majeski, the defending champion of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, remains in championship contention.

Chandler Smith, driving a second entry for Front Row Motorsports, rounded out the top-five in practice for a complete sweep of the top-five spots for Ford Racing in the session. Corey Heim, one of the drivers locked into the Championship 4 for TRICON Garage, was sixth.

Brenden Queen was seventh, with Tanner Gray, Grant Enfinger, and Jack Wood completing the top-10 fastest drivers in the multi-group practice session.

Rajah Caruth (13th), Tyler Ankrum (19th), and Daniel Hemric (20th) were the only three drivers in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs that were not fast enough to be ranked inside the top-10 in the practice session.

Norm Benning was the slowest of the drivers in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice from Martinsville Speedway, clocking in at 22.667 seconds, a lap time that is 2.5 seconds slower than Riggs’ session-pacing time.
