After Thursday’s America 250 Florida Duels at Daytona, it’s obvious that Austin Dillon has speed in his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. But, the Welcome, North Carolina-native decided to show us once again with a strong lap in practice.
The second of three hour-long practices for the DAYTONA 500 took place on Friday evening, just before the start of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event, and featured lots of drafting, which was mostly segregated by manufacturer.
Chevrolet had a large number of vehicles in the draft throughout the session, and it resulted in Austin Dillon at the top of the speed charts with a lap time of 46.006 seconds, which equates to 195.627mph.
Alex Bowman was second-quickest, with Justin Allgaier, Chase Elliott, and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. rounding out the top-five. Shane Van Gisbergen, William Byron, Ross Chastain, Kyle Larson, and Connor Zilisch rounded out the top-10.
The highest-placed Ford Racing driver was Josh Berry, who was 11th-quickest, and the highest-placed Toyota Racing USA driver was Christopher Bell in 21st.
