I don’t know how Charles Plank is okay, but somehow the tire carrier for Zane Smith’s No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team walked away from a freightning ordeal on pit road in Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Love’s RV Stops 250 at Talladega Superspeedway.
As Smith was approaching his pit stall, it appeared his brakes locked up, or he suffered an issue of another sort, which sent him spinning into his pit stall, where he collided with Plank.
Here is a video of the scary incident on pit road:

Plank opted to dive in an attempt to jump over the truck. He didn’t quite clear the truck, but Plank accomplished his goal of going on top of the truck, instead of under it in the incident.
“I thought I could clear it, but I didn’t. It looks like I almost cleared it by jumping over,” Plank said to FS1. “I’m glad I made it on the decklid, instead of getting under it. We’re ready. We’re ready for the next stop.”

Smith would serve a lap penalty on pit road after one of the tires that Plank was carrying was launched down pit road in the incident. Smith would then head to the garage after attempting a return to the race track.
One of the the favorites for the 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship will most likely face a must-win situation next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
