There haven’t been many races in the history of the NASCAR Xfinity Series that have started in a more bizarre way than Saturday’s RAPTOR King of Tough 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
With five cautions in the first stage of the race – which is only 40 laps long – the start of Saturday’s event has seen several mid-pack organizations forced to retire from the race prematurely, with damaged cars.
Josh Williams is not like everybody else, though. He’s a mold-breaker. Although there was damage to his No. 92 Chevrolet Camaro, his DGM Racing crew was able to get his car taped up and back on the track.
Despite the work done to repair the No. 92, tape continued to fly off the fenders of Williams’ entry, littering the race track with debris, and extending the caution period, which NASCAR didn’t take kindly, parking the journeyman driver.
So, that’s what Williams did. He parked his car. However, he did it on the racing surface and at the start-finish line, climbing from his car and walking across the infield to meet his crew down on pit road.

Upon returning to his pit box, NASCAR officials elected to whisk him away to the NASCAR Xfinity Series hauler, where there is likely a very loud conversation happening between Williams and series officials.
UPDATE: Josh Williams met with the media on Saturday evening following a nearly three-hour stay inside the NASCAR Xfinity Series hauler. Williams states that he was, “shocked,” at how fast the decision from NASCAR came to park him, and that he wasn’t intending to be spiteful or anything by parking the car on the frontstretch.
