2022 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champion Layne Riggs has been tapped to join Spire Motorsports for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series T-Sport 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park on August 11.

Riggs, the son of five-time NASCAR Truck Series winner Scott Riggs, will drive the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro in the series’ playoff opener at the 0.686-mile facility located just down the street from Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Infinity Communications, a long-time supporter of Riggs’ racing efforts in NASCAR and the CARS Tour, will partner with the 21-year-old for his sixth career start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, three of which have come this season.

Late last season, Riggs partnered with Halmar Friesen Racing for a three-race stint in the Truck Series, where he piloted the No. 62 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro to a seventh-place finish on debut at IRP.

“I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Infinity Communications and Spire Motorsports to go short-track racing in Indianapolis,” said Riggs. “I made my NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debut last season at the same track and we were able to put together a really solid seventh-place finish. I have a ton of short track experience and having Bono Manion calling the race from the top of the box puts us in a good spot to have a great race.”

The T-SPORT 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park will mark the third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start of the season for Riggs, all of which have come with different organizations.

In the Spring, Riggs joined TRICON Garage for a one-off event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Later in the year, the short-track racer turned NASCAR prospect joined Young’s Motorsports to drive the No. 02 Chevrolet Camaro at Nashville Superspeedway.

Kevin “Bono” Manion and Mike Greci will lead the entry at IRP, as they have with the organization’s NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Truck Series programs in 2023.

“Layne Riggs is a proven talent in the pavement late model ranks and has made a name for himself as a gritty, hard-working and smart race-car driver,” said Manion. “He’s the kind of kid you hope gets a chance at the next level. LOIRP is exactly the type of track that’s right in Layne’s wheelhouse so we have high expectations. We’re all excited to have him in the seat and optimistic about our chances to have a good night.”
