Video: Noah Gragson’s Day Comes to a Fiery End After Mechanical Failure on Lap 67

The perplexing and frustrating season for Noah Gragson and the No. 9 JR Motorsports team continued in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Call 811 Before You Dig 200 at Phoenix Raceway.

On lap 67, out of nowhere, Gragson’s car caught fire from underneath.

For Gragson it was a confusing end to his day, as he didn’t feel he did anything wrong to cause anything to fail on his car.

“Well, I seen some smoke out the mirror on the restart, but my shifts were clean all day,” Gragson said. “But it’s — I don’t really know. All I know is the smoke was coming, I checked my oil gauge. That was showing 65, 70 and then it jumped over 100, which was strange. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

This will mark the third DNF (did not finish) for Gragson in the opening five races of the season, and the kicker is that he’s had a really fast car in each race so far this season, however, aside from a fifth-place finish last week at Las Vegas is all Gragson has to show for the speed he’s had early in the season.
