Sheldon Creed AJ Allmendinger COTA crash for lead 2023
AJ Allmendinger spun Sheldon Creed from the lead on his path to yet another NASCAR Xfinity Series road course win at COTA.

AJ Allmendinger went on to win another NASCAR Xfinity Series road course race, the 10th of his career, Saturday at Circuit of the Americas. While it wasn’t a surprise that Allmendinger, a skilled road racer, won, it was a surprise in how he took the lead, which lead to the eventual win.

With 14 laps remaining in the event, Allmendinger was fighting Sheldon Creed, who is searching for his first-career NASCAR Xfinity Series win, for the lead. When all of a sudden, Allmendinger slipped over the line while alongside Creed.

In Turn 19, Allmendinger slid into the left rear of Creed’s No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, which sent Creed spinning from the lead.

Here is a video of the incident between Allmendinger and Creed:

While Allmendinger went on to win the race, in a great duel with William Byron, Creed was able to rally to finish inside the top-10 in ninth. But while the end result was okay, Creed has to be wondering what might have been had Allmendinger raced him clean.
