It’s been a half-decade since Steve Addington, a 20-time NASCAR Cup Series winning crew chief, called the shots in a NASCAR National Series event and almost 17 years since doing so in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

However, TobyChristie.com has learned that Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series season-opener at Daytona International Speedway will mark the conclusion of Addington’s hiatus, as the Spartanburg, South Carolina native will be calling the shots for CJ McLaughlin.

McLaughlin confirmed the news to TobyChristie.com while reiterating that he will pilot the No. 38 RSS Racing Ford Mustang in the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300, despite the entry list showing ‘TBA’ for the entry.

“I’ve been very fortunate to work with great crew chiefs and I’m really excited to learn a ton from [Steven Addington],” McLaughlin told TobyChristie.com.

A representative from RSS Racing further confirmed that Addington will serve as the season-long crew chief of the No. 38 Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, which is currently announced to include a driver lineup of McLaughlin and Parker Retzlaff.

Addington is a 13-year veteran of the NASCAR Cup Series, a tenure which included victories with Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, and Kurt Busch. The 57-year-old last worked for HScott Motorsports as crew chief of Clint Bowyer’s No. 15 in 2016.

The long-time crew chief also has a decade of experience calling races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, collecting 11 victories with Jason Keller and Mike Bliss, including six top-five point finishes between 1995 and 2004.
