Sam Mayer, the driver of the No. 41 Haas Factory Team Ford Mustang Dark Horse in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, was suspended by NASCAR on Tuesday following his antics on the cooldown lap of last Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series IAA and Ritchie Bros. 250 at Martinsville Speedway.

The suspension of Mayer was officially revealed in the weekly NASCAR penalty report, where Mayer was found to be in violation of sections 4.4.B of the NASCAR Member Code of Conduct.

In a statement released on social media, Haas Factory Team confirmed that it will not appeal the penalty to Mayer and that Ryan Sieg, the driver of the No. 39 RSS Racing Ford, a team that has an alliance with Haas Factory Team, will fill in as the driver of the No. 41 Ford this weekend at Phoenix.

Sieg will be making his 400th career start.

Mayer, who had an ongoing feud with Jeb Burton, the driver of the No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet, for a large portion of the event, ended up making contact with Burton after taking the checkered flag in Saturday’s race.

The contact sent Burton spinning in Turn 1. Burton’s No. 27 machine would slam the driver’s side door first into the outside wall, while Mayer would also collide with the outside wall with the right side door of his car.

Mayer, who finished the race in the seventh position, saw his Playoff run come to an end at the conclusion of the event at Martinsville Speedway.

The driver, who hails from Franklin, WI, will be eligible to return to the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series for the 2026 season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway.

In addition to Mayer’s suspension, two pit crew members for the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing team in the NASCAR Cup Series, De’Quan Hampton and Marquill Osborne, have been suspended from the next two NASCAR Cup Series events due to a detached wheel last weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Additionally, NASCAR issued an indefinite suspension to team member Shane Gray for a violation of sections 4.4.B of the NASCAR Member Code of Conduct at Martinsville Speedway.
