Ryan Truex may be a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Xfinity Series ranks, but don’t let that distinction fool you. The 33-year-old racer has won two NASCAR Xfinity Series events at Dover Motor Speedway over the last two seasons, and he’s set to compete for a third trophy as he’ll pilot the No. 24 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing at Dover Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 19.
Truex, a native of Mayetta, NJ, will have primary sponsorship from the New Jersey State Police for the race. The team is ready to watch Truex go for his third consecutive race win at the 1-mile concrete oval.
“It’s always fun to have Ryan behind the wheel at SHR,” said Sam Hunt, the owner of Sam Hunt Racing. “He brings so much experience, knowledge, and past success to the table, especially at Dover. He understands where SHR is as a team and wants to help everyone continue to improve. We couldn’t be doing this without our partners at New Jersey State Police, and are all excited to get to work at the Monster Mile.”
The New Jersey State Police is elated at the opportunity to partner with the team and Truex, as this will serve as a unique recruitment tool for the department.
“We are honored to join forces with Sam Hunt Racing and the New Jersey State Police in what promises to be an exciting day of racing,” said Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “We aim to raise awareness and recruit individuals who are prepared to answer, ‘A Call to Service’ and become part of the New Jersey State Police.”
Truex has three career wins in 102 career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, and the three wins have come over the course of his last 14 races. Truex’s three wins came under the Joe Gibbs Racing banner, but now he’ll look to add the first-ever win for Sam Hunt Racing in a couple of weeks at Dover.
The Sam Hunt Racing team has been zeroing in on the first win in the organization’s history as the team has 12 top-five finishes and 31 top-10s through 207 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts. The team has an all-time best finish of third, which it has achieved twice, once with John Hunter Nemechek at Richmond in 2021 and another with Corey Heim at Iowa a season ago.
Truex competed in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 24 entry in February and came home with a 17th-place result.
