Jeb Burton came into Saturday night’s Nu Way 200 Sauced by Blues Hog at World Wide Technology Raceway with an outside shot at making it into the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff field. While his race wasn’t going incredibly, the Playoff aspirations came to a drastic and sudden end with a massive crash into the outside wall in Turn 2 on Lap 110.

Burton suffered a cut right front tire, which sent him incredibly hard into the outside wall on the exit of Turn 2.

After being evaluated and released from the infield care center, Burton explained that he had no warning that the tire was about to let go.

“No, not really,” Burton said in an interview with The CW. “We struggled a little bit on the short run today, but our long run speed was pretty good. Just hate it for my guys. Wanted to not get a DNF, but it was kind of out of our control. That was a hard hit. Definitely didn’t feel good. Appreciate my guys, appreciate OnderLaw, and all of the Bommarito Autosport guys that help us. Yeah, it just sucks, but we’ll go on to Bristol next week.”

Burton was able to drive his battered No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet back to pit road, and the car had a fire break out in the right front wheel area. Safety workers on pit road put the fire out, and Burton climbed from the car under his own power.

While it was a massive impact, and one that ended Burton’s Playoff hopes, it was a good thing that the driver was able to walk away from the scary incident on Lap 110.
