UPDATE #2: Monday, March 7th, 2022 at 6:15 PM

After a 13th-place finish at Las Vegas, Alpha Prime Racing has made a ‘last-minute decision’ to put Ryan Ellis in the No. 44 Chevrolet Camaro at Phoenix Raceway, the team tells TobyChristie.com.

Howie DiSavino III – who was scheduled to make his Xfinity Series debut at Phoenix — will instead debut at his home track, Richmond Raceway.

UPDATE: Alpha Prime Racing has confirmed that DiSavino III will compete in six NASCAR Xfinity Series events for the organization, beginning at Phoenix (March 12) and continuing at Richmond (April 2), Charlotte (May 28), Texas (September 24), Talladega (October 1), and Martinsville (October 29).

Howie DiSavino III will continue his climb up the ladder of NASCAR’s top-three series, announcing on Wednesday that he’ll join Alpha Prime Racing in select NASCAR Xfinity Series events in 2022.

The 20-year-old is set to make his series debut in the fourth race of the season at Phoenix Raceway, behind the wheel of the No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro. Kaz Grala will serve as a teammate to DiSavino at Phoenix.

“I am very excited to race with Alpha Prime Racing. I think we will have a great season together! It has been a dream come true to race in the Xfinity Series,” said DiSavino. “Tommy Joe is giving me that shot to make my dream come true. I couldn’t thank everyone at Alpha Prime enough for this opportunity!”

DiSavino made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut last season with Jordan Anderson Racing, competing at Richmond Raceway, going on to compete at Texas, Pocono, Bristol, and Las Vegas, with a best finish of 22nd.

The Chesterfield, Virginia-native has competed in multiple events in the ARCA Menards Series, as well as several local-level Late Model and Pro Late Model races over the years, collecting top-10 and top-15 finishes along the way.

“A big part of the growth of Alpha Prime Racing will be how well we can develop young drivers,” said Tommy Joe Martins, Co-owner of Alpha Prime Racing. “I’m thankful that Howie, his family, his sponsors, and his mentor and manager Austin Theriault believe in what we’re doing here and are giving us that chance. We want to give him the opportunity to grow and be successful.”

DiSavino is the latest addition to a driver lineup that includes Tommy Joe Martins, Caesar Bacarella, Rajah Caruth, Sage Karam, Ryan Ellis, and Kaz Grala, all seven of which will contribute to filling the vacancy in two full-time entries.
