Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ty Majeski told the media on Thursday afternoon that he was the favorite for the championship, not Corey Heim. Then, just a couple of hours later, he put his money where his mouth is and topped the speed charts in practice.

Piloting the No. 98 Soda Sense / Curb Records Ford F-150 for ThorSport Racing, Majeski posted the quickest lap in Thursday’s 50-minute practice session from Phoenix Raceway, posting a lap time of 26.913 seconds (133.764mph).

Majeski posted the quickest lap time in his first circuit around the one-mile racetrack in Avondale, Arizona, and as the session continued on, was unable to be topped by the several teams who elected to make mock qualifying runs at the tail-end of the session.

Layne Riggs did a similar thing as Majeski, posting his fastest time on the second lap of the session. Riggs, who signed a multi-year contract extension with Front Row Motorsports earlier this week, is still in the hunt for the Owner’s Championship.

Brent Crews was third quickest in the session, making a mock qualifying run late in the session. The 17-year-old driver was the best of the five entries out of the TRICON Garage stable, which also includes Championship 4 contender Corey Heim.

Rajah Caruth was fourth, with Talladega race-winner Gio Ruggiero rounding out the top five. Ben Rhodes, Tyler Ankrum, Jake Garcia, Connor Mosack, and Tanner Gray completed the top-10 drivers in the session.

Kaden Honeycutt and Corey Heim were both ranked outside the top-10 in practice. Honeycutt was 12th after making a mock qualifying run, while Heim was 15th, but didn’t make a mock qualifying run due to a flat tire during the session.

Qualifying for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship Race will take place on Friday, October 31 at 3:35 PM ET. The event, 150 laps in length, will take place at 7:30 PM on Friday, just hours after qualifying.
