Stewart Friesen has been disqualified from Friday’s TSPORT 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario-native was flagged in post-race technical inspection for the front heights on his No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra TRD Pro being too low, resulting in an immediate disqualification.
Friesen originally crossed the start-finish line in third place and was the leader of the race when the final stage began, until getting passed by Layne Riggs with 55 laps to go. Friesen was also credited with a second-place finish in Stage 2.
Now, the 42-year-old driver will be credited with a 35th-place finish on the afternoon, which will result in the minimum number of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship points, two. The nine stage points from Stage 2 will not count towards his season total.
With the reshuffling of the finishing order, Layne Riggs and Corey Day remain 1-2, but Corey Heim is moved to third with Grant Enfinger and Ty Majeski rounding out the top five. Chandler Smith, Daniel Hemric, Tyler Ankrum, Ross Chastain, and Rajah Caruth will be credited with top-10s.
The new running order in the second stage is as follows: Layne Riggs, Ben Rhodes, Grant Enfinger, Chandler Smith, Kaden Honeycutt, Ty Majeski, Corey Heim, Luke Fenhaus, Connor Mosack, and Jake Garcia.
Friesen’s disqualification does not impact the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series postseason, as the Canadian driver had already locked into the Playoffs with a victory at Michigan International Speedway in June. The penalty drops him from 10th to 13th in regular-season points.
Stewart Friesen and Halmar Friesen Racing will have the opportunity to appeal this disqualification, but no indication has been made on whether or not they will do so.
