Riley Herbst dominated the opening stage of Friday’s NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona from the pole.
But after a wild incident at lap 15, which saw Ty Majeski flip upside down, Herbst had to hold the field off in a one-lap shootout.
The driver of Kyle Busch Motorsports’ No. 51 Toyota Tundra was able to pull it off. Herbst is ineligible for the Truck Series title, as he is running for the Xfinity Series championship this year, but his Stage win scores 10 extra championship owner points and a Playoff point for the No. 51 team.
Tyler Ankrum finished second in a Stage 1 and he was followed by Christian Eckes, Brett Moffitt and Johnny Sauter rounded out the top-five.
Stewart Friesen, Austin Hill, Grant Enfinger, Raphael Lessard and Todd Gilliland finishes sixth thru 10th and also scored Stage Points.
