While the post-Pocono Raceway weekend penalty report did not include any sanctions against Corey LaJoie, who made contact with Kyle Busch entering Turn 1 on Lap 121 to trigger a seven-car accident in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series The Great American Getaway 400, the sanctioning body did announce two indefinite suspensions for violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Cordell Cahill and RJ Otto were the two gentlemen flagged for violating sections 4.1 and 10.1.A of the NASCAR Rule Book Member Code of Conduct, which are behavioral violations tied to the NASCAR substance abuse policy.
Cahill, 42, had served as IT Support for the 23XI Racing team this season according to NASCAR’s Roster Portal.
Otto, 32, served as the interim crew chief for Bret Holmes and the No. 32 Bret Holmes Racing team for the final three races of the 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. It doesn’t look like Otto has been included in a NASCAR Team Roster so far during the 2024 season. This means he has likely been working exclusively at the shop for a team.
Also on the weekly penalty report issued by NASCAR was a $2,500 fine for Niece Motorsports crew chief Phil Gould, who was assigned to the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado at Pocono Raceway. Following a top-five finish by Ross Chastain, the truck was found to have an unsecured lug nut in post-race inspection, which led to the fine for Gould in this week’s penalty report.

I think Kyle Busch should go drive for legacy motor sports help Jimmy Johnson with both his drivers whom he knows well and with Toyota
Substance abuse policies should apply in the shops also. What happens if someone under the influence installs the wrong parts or installs it incorrectly? What if that car causes an accident with injury? Who is responsible?
I disagree. I go home and smoke weed to unwind. They other guys go get shit faced drinking. I’m better off the next day. But I get punished and they don’t. Arrogance.
Exactly ?
I agree.
There is no excuse for self substance abuse in NASCAR racing of any sort.
No place for any kind of drug abuse, the sport is highly dangerous as it is.
