Layne Riggs enters Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Martinsville Speedway needing to erase a six-point deficit to the cutline, should he advance to the Championship 4.
The Bahama, North Carolina-native got the weekend started on the right foot, though, winning the pole for the Slim Jim 200 at the 0.526-mile paperclip in Martinsville, Virginia.
With a lap time of 19.478 seconds (92.217mph) — the third-fastest qualifying effort in the history of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway — Riggs captured his third career pole position in the No. 34 Bare Knuckle Brawl Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports.

In his three prior starts in the NASCAR Truck Series at Martinsville, Riggs has qualified inside the top-seven each time, but has only recorded a single top-10 result, a sixth-place last Fall.
“We’ve got a bad fast F-150,” Riggs said in a social media post following qualifying. “A short track sounds like the perfect place for us to be. We’re gonna fight and give it our all tonight.”
With his pole position Friday at Martinsville, Riggs matches NASCAR Cup Series driver Zane Smith as having the most poles for the Front Row Motorsports Truck Series program, with three apiece. Smith also won a pole at Martinsville in the Spring of 2023.
Gio Ruggiero, winner of last weekend’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Talladega Superspeedway, will start on the outside of the front row in his No. 17 First Auto Group Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage.
Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ty Majeski will roll from the third position on Friday, as he looks to continue his quest to secure back-to-back championships.
Corey Heim, the only driver to have secured a spot in the Championship 4 with his victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL, will start from fourth, with Kaden Honeycutt rounding out the top-five starters for Halmar Friesen Racing in the No. 52 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
Tyler Ankrum will start from the outside of the third row, with Rajah Caruth in seventh, Grant Enfinger in eighth, Daniel Hemric in ninth, and rookie driver Andres Perez De Lara rounding out the top-10.

All eight of the remaining drivers in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs qualified inside the top nine for the 200-lap contest at Martinsville.
Clayton Green, driving the No. 2 Ford F-150 for Reaume Brothers Racing, was the only driver who failed to turn a lap in qualifying. Green crashed his red and white Ford in practice, after getting into the oil of Bayley Currey, destroying the rear-end of the vehicle.
