The sad news began circulating around Twitter on Wednesday about the death of former NASCAR Truck Series team owner Lonnie Troxell.

A report Wednesday night from the Louisville Courier Journal has confirmed that Troxell has passed away at the age of 68.

According to the report, Troxell was found floating in the Ohio River Tuesday evening by Police, fire and other emergency responders. A cause of death has not been released and is pending an autopsy.

Troxell, a Louisville, Kentucky native, owned race trucks that started a total of 75 races in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series over a five year period from 2000 to 2005.

The best finish for his organization was a 15th-place effort with Wayne Edwards behind the wheel in the 2004 season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway.

In recent years, Troxell had become very popular on Twitter as he would frequently get into debates about how to fix the current state of NASCAR.
