Eddie D’Hondt ‘Immediately and Indefinitely Suspended’ from Spotting Duties at Hendrick Motorsports, After Pair of Assault Charges Surface

NASCAR has officially announced that they have indefinitely suspended spotter Eddie D’Hondt for the violation of two sections of the NASCAR Rule Book:

NASCAR RULE BOOK: SECTION 2.11 REQUIRED NOTICE

Any NASCAR Member charged with any violation of the law (misdemeanor and/or felony) shall notify NASCAR at reporting@nascar.com or visit reporting.nascar.com, prior to the next scheduled Event or within 72 hours of being so charged, whichever is earlier.

NASCAR RULE BOOK: SECTION 12.8.1.e: MEMBER CONDUCT GUIDELINES

Member actions that could result in a fine and/or indefinite suspension, or termination:

• Statement and/or communication made public (including social media platforms) that demeans, criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.
• Being charged with or convicted of significant criminal violations (e.g. Domestic Violence, Trafficking, Assault), or having had determinations rendered by criminal or civil authorities that in NASCAR’s judgement necessitate action. NASCAR will not pre-judge guilt or innocence in the criminal or civil legal system, or the guilt or innocence of the Member, but rather review each matter in its own context and circumstances and with regards to its potential effects upon the sport.

Eddie D’Hondt has been ‘immediately and indefinitely suspended’ from his spotting duties at Hendrick Motorsports, after it surfaced on Wednesday Morning that D’Hondt had been arrested and charged with a pair of misdeameanor charges – battery of an unborn child and assault on a female.

Hendrick Motorsports released a statement on Wednesday Morning, saying: “We became aware of the situation this morning and have immediately and indefinitely suspended Mr. D’Hondt’s role with our company. We are taking this matter very seriously and will continue to seek additional information about the alleged incident.”

Despite his May 12 arrest, D’Hondt had still been working as a spotter for Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro at Dover International Speedway and Circuit of The Americas. At this time, Hendrick Motorsports says that another spotter has not been named in D’Hondt’s place for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition to his role as spotter in the NASCAR Cup Series, D’Hondt also serves as a spotter for Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Austin Hill’s No. 16 Hattori Racing Enterprises Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
