Dawson Sutton will take over the primary driving role for Rackley WAR in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, beginning with Friday’s Kubota Tractor 200 at Kansas Speedway.
The 18-year-old driver will get behind the wheel of the No. 25 Rackley Roofing Chevrolet Silverado for the remainder of the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign.
Sutton replaces Ty Dillon as the team’s primary driver. Dillon, who spent several years competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, dropped down from NASCAR’s premier division this season to partner with Rackley WAR.
In the opening 18 events of the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign, Dillon has recorded a pair of ninth-place finishes in the entry, coming at Darlington Raceway and the regular-season finale at Richmond Raceway.
The 32-year-old drier isn’t departing Rackley WAR, though, and will continue with the organization as a driver coach and mentor to Dawson Sutton, as the 18-year-old driver navigates a transition from the Pro and Super Late Model circuits into a potential full-time opportunity in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
“I am thankful to everyone at Rackley WAR for the opportunity to make my return to the Truck Series,” Dillon said in a statement. “I look forward to mentoring Dawson [Sutton] for the remainder of this season, and am very excited to focus on my future plans behind the wheel in 2025.”
Dillon is the grandson of Richard Childress Racing team owner Richard Childress and is currently among the front-runners to pilot one of Kaulig Racing’s NASCAR Cup Series entries in 2025, as the team enters a closer relationship with RCR.
“We are super thankful for the job Ty has done for us this year as our primary driver,” said Willie Allen, team co-owner. “We appreciate his willingness to take on an additional role and help Dawson grow and develop as a young driver for the remainder of the NASCAR Truck Series season. We look forward to Ty’s continued valuable input and support in the ongoing development of our race program.”
According to a team release, Rackley WAR has yet to finalize its plans for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign and will announce them as soon as the details are finalized.
