It’s not been the season Austin Hill probably expected after winning the season-opening NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway. He has had inconsistent finishes and dust ups with drivers, but Saturday in the Corrigan Oil 200 at Michigan, Hill steered clear of the drama and took his second-career victory.
Hill held off a hard-charging Sheldon Creed on a green-white-checkered finish.
Hill inherited the lead when Tyler Ankrum was crashed from the lead the restart before after a hard push from Matt Crafton’s No. 88 Ford F-150.
By finishing second, Creed missed out on a potential Playoff berth. It had to be a bummer, but after a rough season Creed has now finished runner-up in back to back races.
Tyler Dippel finished third, Brett Moffitt was fourth and Austin Wayne Self rounded out the top-five finishers.
Bayley Currey came home sixth in Niece Motorsports’ No. 44 entry, Grant Enfinger finished seventh to secure the regular-season championship trophy, Stewart Friesen was eighth, Ray Ciccarelli ended a career-best ninth and Crafton faded to 10th.
The 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Playoff Grid Consists of: Brett Moffitt, Grant Enfinger, Stewart Friesen, Austin Hill, Ross Chastain, Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter and Tyler Ankrum.
Ben Rhodes, Harrison Burton, Todd Gilliland failed to work their way into the Playoffs as they were in a must-win situation.
