Riley Herbst Crashes in Opening Xfinity Practice, Will Start at Rear on Saturday

In the opening moments of the first NASCAR Xfinity Series practice session of the weekend for Saturday’s LTi Printing 250, Riley Herbst turned the 10th-fastest lap on the board. Moments later, the No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Supra went around and slammed hard into the wall destroying Herbst’s primary car.

The team unloaded the backup car and got it on track to take a few more laps around the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway before the end of the session. Herbst would finish out practice 1 with the 12th-fastest time in his backup race car. The 20-year old Joe Gibbs Racing development driver has impressed in spot duty with the team in the Xfinity Series.

Through three career NXS starts, Herbst has two top-10 finishes and his worst effort was a 15th-place finish at Dover last month.

If Herbst wants to nab another solid finish on Saturday, he’ll have to do so after starting from the rear of the field as a result of the crash that obliterated his primary car.
