Video: Anthony Alfredo Right-Rear-Hooks Stefan Parsons; Assessed Two-Lap Penalty

That was ugly. On Lap 62 of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, Stefan Parsons got a little loose on the exit of Turn 4, which sent him into the side of Anthony Alfredo’s No. 5 Our Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro.

The contact pinned Alfredo’s car into the outside wall, and after the contact with the wall, Alfredo became incensed.

Heading into the dog-leg on the frontstretch, Alfredo hooked Parsons’ No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the right-rear, which sent Parsons hard into the outside wall.

Greg Van Alst would spin in reaction to the crash, and would slam into the inside wall. While Parsons was done for the night, Van Alst was able to continue on in the race.

“Yeah, we had been racing really hard for a couple of laps on the restart. He put it down on my door a few times, and I got free underneath him that time. I didn’t mean to get into him like that. But he hooked me. He right-rear hooked me, what’s happened when people have been right-rear hooked in the past? You can’t do that. No excuse.”

After the incident, NASCAR assessed a two-lap rough driving penalty to Alfredo for the right-rear hook, additional penalties for Alfredo for the move could come next week.

Parsons says that he’s never had any real on-track incidents with Alfredo in the past, but he does note that Alfredo is usually an extremely hard racer no matter the situation.

“No, I mean he always races extremely hard no matter if it’s for last or for first, but that’s fine,” Parsons explained. “That’s part of racing in the Xfinity Series. Hooking somebody in the right-rear is something totally different. I don’t know what else you want me to say than that. I’m thankful to Tommy Joe, and Caesar and everybody at Alpha Prime for the opportunity. We had a fast car. We had been in the top-20 all day. It’s a shame we got taken out like that.”
