After 15-plus years, JR Motorsports is set to bring the iconic No. 8 Dale Earnhardt, Inc. number font back to life in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for 2025.
The organization confirmed on Monday, in a social media video, that the stylized number will be returning to NASCAR competition, with Sammy Smith behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet.

This will not be the first time JR Motorsports uses this iconic number font, though, after a partnership announcement in October that reunited Budweiser and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The 15-time winner of the NMPA Most Popular Driver Award competed in the South Carolina 400 using one of the most iconic paint schemes of all time, including this same number font.
Smith, a native of Johnston, Iowa, returns to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a second season with JR Motorsports, and a third overall. Last season, the driver collected a victory at Talladega Superspeedway and advanced as far as the semi-final round of the post-season.
The last time that the Dale Earnhardt, Inc. number font was used on the racetrack was in 2008 when Mark Martin and Aric Almirola split the No. 8 Chevrolet after Earnhardt, Jr. departed for Hendrick Motorsports.
Smith, 20, will begin the new era of the No. 8 — with the Dale Earnhardt, Inc. font — with the NASCAR Xfinity Series season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 15.
