JR Motorsports will appeal the disqualification of Sam Mayer and the No. 1 First Bank of Alabama Chevrolet Camaro from last Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Talladega Superspeedway, the organiation confirmed on Monday.

Mayer was stripped of a 16th-place finish in Saturday’s United Rentals 250 at Talladega, after NASCAR determined that the No. 1 JR Motorsports entry was too low, when conducting its weekly post-race inspection ritual.

The team’s statement, posted to social media prior to 2:30pm ET reads as follows: “JR Motorsports will appeal the disqualification of Sam Mayer and the No. 1 team following last weekends event at Talladega Superspeedway.”

The Franklin, Wisconsin-native was on-track to earn 24 points prior to the disqualification, which would have left him as the final driver above the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs cutline heading to an elimination race at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ROVAL.

By being demoted to 38th-place on the afternoon, and only receiving a single point, Mayer dropped to 11th-place on the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff Grid, with a 13-point deficit to make up on AJ Allmendinger heading to the ROVAL.

No further comments or explanations were provided by the team or any of its representatives.
