If you simply look at the final box score from Thursday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Toyota 200 at Darlington Raceway, you may not understand why a 33rd-place finish was so impressive for Mike Harmon Racing’s Bayley Currey.

However, at the conclusion of the race, which Currey brought home the car in one piece, five laps off the pace, the 23-year old driver took to Twitter to explain the insane adversity he battled through throughout the entire race.

Say what?

He went through the entire race at perhaps NASCAR’s most treacherous track — Darlington — with no brakes, and he made it to the checkered flag?

That is one hell of a day’s work for the Texas native.

Currey did elaborate on the brake issues in a response to a fan who asked about his brakes. Currey had a little bit of rear brake, but had to, “pump them down both straightaways to get anything out of the fronts.”

33rd-place may not rival Currey’s career best NXS finish of 20th, but the path of getting to the finish Thursday at Darlington, was certainly just as impressive, if not more so.
