William Byron will drive a special No. 24 Chevrolet in the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL in October. The paint scheme was the culmination of a collaborative effort between Valvoline Global, Hendrick Motorsports, and Blood Cancer United (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), and was created to bring awareness to pediatric blood cancer during Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
The official in-person unveiling of the paint scheme, which was designed by four pediatric blood cancer survivors, will take place at the Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
On hand for the unveiling will be Byron, Hendrick Motorsports Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon, Hendrick Motorsports team owner Rick Hendrick, who will join patients and their families in a celebration of the local children who designed the race car.
“Together, we are truly unstoppable in our mission to create a brighter future for children with blood cancer,” said E. Anders Kolb, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer at Blood Cancer United. “With the support of our partner, Valvoline Global, and in collaboration with Hendrick Motorsports, we are able to share our message of hope with millions of fans around the world and drive forward our shared goal of a better tomorrow.”
The red and white car will feature red, white, and blue confetti, as well as unicorns, and other components brought to life by the four pediatric cancer survivors, who were asked to symbolize their happiness. Byron, a two-time Daytona 500 champion, is honored to be tasked with piloting this racecar in October.
“This paint scheme is more than just colors on a race car — it represents courage, hope, and the incredible spirit of the young patients who created it,” Byron said in a press release. “Carrying their artwork at my hometown race, with a partner like Valvoline Global that is dedicated to such an important cause, makes it even more special. We’re fortunate to have a world-class facility like Levine Children’s Hospital here in Charlotte, but not every family has that kind of access. Our team is proud to shine a light on the fight against pediatric blood cancer and celebrate these inspiring kids.”
Valvoline Global was more than happy to join this important cause for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL. According to Hendrick Motorsports, later this month, the No. 24 Valvoline show car will make a special stop at Valvoline Global’s Lexington, KY headquarters to celebrate the company’s support of Blood Cancer United and the organization’s Dare to Dream Project.
“At Valvoline Global, we are driven by our enduring purpose to inspire and enable what – and who – moves the world forward,” said Jamal Maushsher, President and CEO at Valvoline Global. “Our work with Blood Cancer United is a testament to this commitment, and we are honored to continue supporting this worthy cause to create a better tomorrow for these children and their families.”
