Playoff Contenders Alex Bowman and Christopher Bell had capable cars Sunday at Texas, but crashes have doomed their chances at good finishes. Screengrabs from USA Network broadcast.

Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman had an incredible opening round of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs and they both easily cruised into the Round of 12. However, both drivers will more than likely have a harder time making it to the Round of 8 after troubles at Texas Motor Speedway.

For Bowman, the trouble occurred while he was running in eighth position on lap 98. The rear of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro kicked out from under him and he backed into the outside wall in Turn 4.

Here is video of Bowman’s incident:

The damage was not severe enough to end Bowman’s day, but after extensive repairs, the driver of the No. 48 car is nine laps off the pace and just hoping the race turns into an attrition event.

For Bell, who scored the most points in the Round of 16 of the Playoffs, his troubles started on lap 79 with a flat right rear tire, which sent him spinning. Fortunately, for Bell, he was able to keep the car off the wall on lap 79.

Unfortunately, another right rear would go down on the No. 20 Rheem Toyota Camry on lap 138, and this time Bell wouldn’t be able to save it.

Bell skidded into the outside wall in Turn 4 and made major contact with the rear of his car. Here is video of Bell’s latest incident, which has impacted his day and his Playoffs chances:

Bell returned to the track a spot behind Bowman in 34th and was 10 laps off the pace after repairs, however, the repairs were not successful and Bell’s day would come to an end shortly after returning to the track.
