Video: William Byron Sneaks Through Last-Lap Wreck to Win Second Daytona 500

William Byron is a back-to-back winner of the DAYTONA 500, after avoiding a major wreck on the final lap which took out several of the leaders.

Byron, driving the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet, took the white flag sitting in ninth place, but when leaders Denny Hamlin and Cole Custer got together on the backstretch, the Hendrick Motorsports driver darted to the outside and cleared the wreck.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-native is the first back-to-back winner of the DAYTONA 500 since Denny Hamlin won the prestigious event in back-to-back seasons in 2019 and 2020.

Byron was the beneficiary of a wreck that decimated the front of the pack, with Denny Hamlin, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, Ty Gibbs, Corey LaJoie and several others getting involved in the chaos.

With no caution being displayed, Byron crossed the start-finish line in the lead, with Tyler Reddick, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Briscoe, and John Hunter Nemechek rounding out the top-five.

Alex Bowman, Ryan Blaney, Austin Cindric, Justin Allgaier, and Chris Buescher rounded out the top-10.
