That’s suboptimal for Justin Haley…
During Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series practice from Martinsville Speedway, Justin Haley, driver of the No. 7 Gainbridge Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, was making a run when the hood of his racecar flew up.
It was evident that a member of the Spire Motorsports crew failed to get all of the hood pins tightened for when Haley returned to the racetrack after his first run in NASCAR Cup Series practice.
After his vision was obstructed, Haley put his foot on the brake pedal and locked up the brakes on his No. 7 Chevrolet heading into the first corner in order to avoid crashing and causing further damage to his vehicle.
Haley ranked 34th place of the 38 vehicles that entered Sunday’s Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway, after running a total of 22 laps around the half-mile paperclip.
Spire Motorsports will assess the damage to the No. 7 before deciding whether or not they will be able to make a qualifying run.
