Daniel Suarez was a contender for the pole position in Sunday’s Ally 400, but lost it, after crashing in turn four.

After posting the fastest lap in the opening round of qualifying, Daniel Suarez will start Sunday’s Ally 400 with a monumental hole to dig himself out of, after crashing in the final round of qualifying.

Suarez, representing a local partner in Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, was looking to be a contender for the pole, much like his Trackhouse Racing teammate Ross Chastain, who had posted a quick time just before the No. 99 hit the track.

A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Suarez hadn’t even gotten around to the start-finish line to start his timed lap, when his Chevrolet Camaro snapped loose, spinning up the track and into the outside wall.

The 31-year-old driver will be credited with a 10th-place start, as a result of advancing to the final round of qualifying, but will have to go to the rear of the field, as a result of either going to a backup car, or making major repairs on the No. 99.
