Video: Connor Zilisch Crashes Out of Cup Debut in Incident with Suarez

Connor Zilisch’s bid for a win, or solid finish in his NASCAR Cup Series debut, came to an abrupt end on Lap 50 of Sunday’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas as he suffered a hard crash with his Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez.

Suarez, who was running eighth at the time of the incident, clipped the curb in the center of Turn 19, and lost control of his car as a result. As Suarez spun, it created a cloud of smoke. As Zilisch, who was running 14th, arrived at the scene, he had to guess which way to go to avoid the crash.

He swerved right, he should have veered left. Zilisch would slam into the right front of Suarez’s No. 99 Chevrolet with the left front of his No. 87 Red Bull Chevrolet.

The crash would cause catastrophic damage to both vehicles, and it would end the day for the 18-year-old Zilisch.
