NBC Sport’s Nate Ryan has an excellent article in which Martin Truex Jr. reveals that Furniture Row Racing — which shuttered following the 2018 season — nearly shut down in 2015.

“It wasn’t really reported on a lot that there was almost a chance we were going out of business before” the end of 2018, Truex said in the NBC article. “It wasn’t really talked about. It was kind of behind the scenes. And I had to go out and find sponsors. I had to do this and that to get paid.”

Truex found the sponsorship necessary to continue at FRR, and ultimately won the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship before the team closed it’s doors.
