Wow. Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Food City Presents Supermarket Heroes 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway was wild, chaotic and absolutely unpredictable. At the end of the carnage, insanity and shocking 500 lap slug-fest, the little guy that could — Timmy Hill — was left with a feel-good top-20 finish.

The 27-year old Hill raced like a veteran journeyman. He took care of his equipment all race long, and while some of the fastest cars in the race were transported to the scrap yard, Hill collected a 19th-place finish and incredibly he finished on the lead lap.

Following the effort, Hill took to Twitter to express proud feeling for his team, he even plugged a post-race meal that will be cooked on one of his sponsor’s products — Pit Boss Grills.

This is the best finish for MBM Motorsports and Hill in the Cup Series since Hill was able to score a 14th-place finish for the team in the 2017 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is the third-ever lead lap finish for MBM Motorsports, and third ever for Hill in 101-career NCS starts.

While the Maryland native doesn’t usually garner much media attention, he has really started to put together some eye-opening results in 2020.

Hill scored a third-place finish driving for MBM in the season-opening NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Hill followed that up by driving his way into the 2020 Daytona 500, despite long odds.

During the coronavirus shutdown, Hill became a bit of a household name with the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series. Hill won the event at virtual Texas Motor Speedway, and aside from the race at virtual Talladega, Hill finished inside the top-three in every Pro Invitational Series event.

Hill’s great run of races on iRacing led to RoofClaim.com to expand their sponsorship deal with the team, which has allowed the MBM Motorsports to purchase more resources such as new tires as the season has continued on.

Hill and his team aren’t expected to contend for top-20 finishes week in and week out, but they proved on Sunday, that if given the right circumstances they can pounce and collect a really good result.
