A week ago, word began to trickle out that NASCAR had a sweeping round of layoffs. Reports ranged from 50 to 100 employees were let go by the sanctioning body. It appears the former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Richard Buck was among those cut by the organization.

Wednesday, NASCAR sent out a release stating that Jay Fabian has assumed the role of Managing Director of the MENCS.

Fabian’s last title was managing director of technical integration at NASCAR, which meant that he headed up the post-race inspection efforts at the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, NC. Fabian understands how the sport is ever-changing thanks to technology.

“This is a fast-paced sport that is constantly evolving, and I’m thankful for this opportunity and eager to take on the challenge,” Fabian said in a NASCAR press release. “Racing has been my passion for as long as I can remember. There is growing anticipation for the 2019 season, and I’m looking forward to being a part of an outstanding team that will help build our sport.”

In addition to his previous role with NASCAR, Fabian has served as a member of the over the wall pit crew in the past and he has even been a crew chief in his 25-plus-year motorsports career.

“With his vast experience across the industry, Jay Fabian is uniquely suited for this position,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “Jay’s steady leadership and depth of knowledge are tremendous assets that will greatly benefit the series and all of NASCAR.”
