UPDATE: Monday, January 11th — 12:03 PM ET

A Hendrick Motorsports team representative has officially confirmed to TobyChristie.com that Tyler Monn will be Kyle Larson’s spotter in 2021.

Tyler Monn, who served as a spotter for Rick Ware Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020, will take over as spotter for the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team and will work with Kyle Larson this season, TobyChristie.com has learned.

An anonymous source detailed to TobyChristie.com on Sunday that Monn will be moving to HMS after the deal was completed and signed on Wednesday.

TobyChristie.com has reached out to Hendrick Motorsports and Monn for a comment. Those request have gone unanswered at the time of publishing. There will be an update to the story if one is received.

The 27-year old spotter will look to help Larson fire out of the gates strong in 2021 as Larson returns from a suspension for uttering a racial slur during an iRacing event in April. That incident occurred during the sport’s adjustment break due to COVID-19, and it kept Larson out of all but four races in 2020.

Larson has scored six wins over his NASCAR Cup Series career, which has spanned a total of six full-time seasons and 223 starts. The California-native has a career-best point finish of sixth in 2019.

Of course, this ends a peculiar stretch for Larson and the No. 5 team.

Larson was announced as the official 2021 driver of the No. 5 team back on October 28th. Following that announcement, Hendrick Motorsports announced Chris Monez as Larson’s 2021 spotter on January 1st only to relieve him of his duties on January 5th in the wake of social media posts that had surfaced.

Monez has not Tweeted since the news of his firing and there is no word on where he may land for the 2021 season.
