Located in Montreal, Quebec, the 2.71-mile road course was a fixture on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule from 2007 to 2012, and at the time, was the only NASCAR National Series event located in Canada.
According to Stern, NASCAR is currently in the middle of discussions with various entities in Montreal about the possibility of bringing the NASCAR Cup Series to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the first time.
Barring the addition of any international facilities to the schedule in 2024, an event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would mark the first points-paying NASCAR Cup Series event to be held outside of the United States.
The mentioned report says “negotiations are said to be ongoing and not yet complete” which means they “could end without a deal or see the proposed races delayed beyond 2024”.
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has hosted numerous divisions of racing over the year, including the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, Champ Car Series, and Trans-Am Series. Additionally, the 2.71-mile road course has played host to the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix, which is set to take place next weekend.
