After a spectacular crash (click here for video of the crash) on the opening night of this week’s International Midget dirt events at Western Springs Speedway in New Zealand, Christopher Bell decided on his own to go home early. The news that Bell made the decision on his own was broken in a report from Lee Spencer of RacinBoysScoop.com.

In doing so, Bell will forgo the remainder of the events in New Zealand this weekend.

As soon as news spread that Bell had ended his weekend in New Zealand early, speculation ran rampant that it was Bob Leavine — Bell’s new NASCAR Cup Series team owner — who made the call for Bell. Something Leavine later refuted on Twitter.

According to the report from Spencer, Bell opted to leave New Zealand early in an effort to better prepare for the Chili Bowl midget dirt race in Tulsa, Oklahoma as well as his 2020 NASCAR Cup Series rookie season.
