On Monday, more than 20 NASCAR Cup Series teams took to the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL in Charlotte, North Carolina for the first organizational test with NASCAR’s brand-new Next Gen car, which will make its competition debut in February 2022 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the NASCAR Clash.

Chase Briscoe set the fastest lap of the session at 80.219 seconds, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Ryan Blaney, AJ Allmendinger, and Tyler Reddick rounding out the top five times. Kyle Larson / Chase Elliott, Cole Custer, Corey LaJoie, Austin Cindric, and Joey Logano rounded out the top-10.

For those looking at time charts from the test, it’s important to note that cars did not have to go through technical inspection before the test. In addition to no inspection processes, many drivers noted that the fastest laps of the day were set after drivers blew through chicanes without stopping, improving their lap times and giving a dishonest sense of speed.
