The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 8 field is set, and that will not change following Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Bank of America Roval 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, but there could be penalties coming for the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing team.

Following Sunday’s race, NASCAR issued a statement that they will be reviewing the finish and will be focusing specifically on telemetry data, video, and radio communications from the No. 41 team.

Here is the full statement from NASCAR:

NASCAR is reviewing data, video, and radio transmissions from the 41 car following its incident on the backstretch during the final lap. NASCAR will communicate the results of the review early this week. Any potential penalties would not affect the Round of 8 field.

While it is uncertain exactly what NASCAR is investigating, at first glance it appeared that Cole Custer, who drives the No. 41 entry for Stewart-Haas Racing, slowed his car dramatically and blocked a group of cars behind his teammate Chase Briscoe, who drives the No. 14 car.

If this was an intentional move, it certainly aided his teammate Briscoe with the breathing room he needed to breeze to the finish line and secure his berth into the Round of 8 of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs in Sunday’s race.

Custer finished 24th in Sunday’s race, while Briscoe came home in the ninth position.
