A day after Ryan Newman announced his intentions to return to Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 6 machine when NASCAR returns to racing (presumably May 17th at Darlington Raceway), NASCAR officially announced that the 42-year old driver has been medically cleared to return to racing after his frightening Daytona 500 crash.

The announcement came in the form of a single-sentence statement, which read:

”Ryan Newman has been medically cleared to resume all racing activities.”

Newman, who made the Playoffs in 2019, was leading the 2020 Daytona 500 until contact sent him into the wall and upside down.

After a hard collision, Newman was injured and was sent to Halifax Medical Center for days before finally returning home.

After missing three events, the NASCAR Cup Series season was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Newman sits 29th in the championship standings, and will be eligible for a medical waiver to get into the 2020 Playoffs if he wins a race or if he works inside the top-16 of the championship standings.
