When the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season gets rolling in Los Angeles, California, a new era will also be underway for Roush Fenway Racing, with the addition of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Brad Keselowski to the team’s driver, and ownership roster.

Those aren’t the only changes the organization will see for 2022, as it was announced Tuesday that Matt McCall will be calling the shots for the organization’s flagship No. 6 Ford Mustang, with partial team owner Brad Keselowski as his driver.

McCall currently calls the shots for Kurt Busch’s No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing entry, which under his leadership has captured three wins (Atlanta 2021, Las Vegas 2020, and Kentucky 2019), as well as 30 top-five and 97 top-10 finishes. In his seven seasons with CGR, he has earned six playoff berths as a crew chief.

Before his time at Chip Ganassi Racing, McCall served as the lead engineer for Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 in 2014, the team that finished runner-up in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Believe it or not, there is a pre-existing connection between McCall and RFR. In 2007, the North Carolina-native was tapped to practice and qualify the team’s NASCAR Busch Series entry at Memphis, while Carl Edwards carried out on-track activities for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta. McCall posted the 43rd fastest lap time.
