The first practice session for the 61st Daytona 500 was very orderly — much more so than Saturday’s Clash practice, which featured a four-car crash.

The field attempted single car qualifying runs and as the session moved forward some got a little more courageous by trying out some laps in the draft. However, the session ended with no serious incidents of any kind.

Martin Truex Jr., who moved to Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 19 car this off season after Furniture Row Racing closed down, was fastest. Truex’s fast lap was 195.920 mph (45.937 sec.).

Truex’s JGR teammates Kyle Busch and Erik Jones were second and third fastest. Tyler Reddick, who will attempt making the Daytona 500 was fourth-fastest in the Richard Childress Racing No. 31 Camaro ZL1.

Ty Dillon rounded out the top-five fastest from the session.
