Cole Custer is bringing a little extra excitement to the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway on April 6.

Custer, who drives the No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Haas Factory Team, is throwing back to the familiar red and white No. 41 driven by Jimmy Spencer in 2002.

Spencer joined Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2002 season, piloting a No. 41 Dodge sponsored by Target. Custer is reprising the memorable scheme for the upcoming Goodyear 400, part of NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend.

During a NASCAR Cup Series career spanning nearly two full decades, Spencer won two races and earned three pole positions. He also won 12 races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Before his ascension to NASCAR’s national series, Spencer won two championships in what is now known as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 1986 and 1987.

Spencer earned the nickname “Mr. Excitement” during his racing career for his captivating and aggressive driving style. Now, Custer hopes to bring some of that excitement to “The Lady in Black” on April 6.

Custer is a former winner at Darlington Raceway, scoring a victory in the Xfinity Series at the South Carolina facility in 2019. The California driver has made seven Cup Series starts at the track, with a best finish of 11th in the 2021 Southern 500.

Custer rejoined the Cup Series in 2025 with the new Haas Factory Team. He was in contention for a victory in the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International before being involved in a last-lap accident in the race won by William Byron.

The Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway is scheduled for Sunday, April 6, at 3:00 p.m. ET. Live coverage will air on FOX Sports 1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
