Two of the most popular names in NASCAR Cup Series history will converge for an incredible throwback paint scheme during the May 12 NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway.

On Wednesday, Hendrick Motorsports, Chase Elliott, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed Elliott’s No. 9 UniFirst throwback paint scheme that the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion and six-time Most Popular Driver will run this year.

The paint scheme is the National Guard paint scheme that Earnhardt utilized during the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series season with Hendrick Motorsports. Of Earnhardt’s four wins in 2014, three of them came in the National Guard colors, including his victory in the Daytona 500.

Elliott sits sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings after the opening five races of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. The driver, who is one of the best in the sport at road courses, figures to be one of the threats to win this weekend’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.

The 28-year-old racer has 18-career NASCAR Cup Series wins to date.
