On Saturday morning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports provided an update on the health condition of Chase Elliott, who sustained a broken tibia in a snowboarding accident in Colorado on Friday.

The team says that Elliott underwent a successful three-hour surgery on Friday and is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning. No official timeline was given for Elliott’s return.

Chase Elliott, NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, will not compete in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, after sustaining a leg injury while snowboarding in Colorado on Friday.

“Chase’s health is our primary concern,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “He’s spoken with several members of our team and is understandably disappointed to miss time in the car. Of course, he has our full support, and we’ll provide any resources he needs. We hope to share another update later this weekend.”

Elliott is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured leg on Friday evening.

Josh Berry, who competes full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports, will pilot the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro in Sunday’s event, marking his third career start in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The Hendersonville, Tennessee-native’s two prior starts have also come in fill-in roles, both while replacing a driver from Spire Motorsports at Dover and Michigan last season.
