Chase Elliott will have a new look on his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet next weekend in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway as his UniFirst paint scheme will draw inspiration from Ken Schrader’s No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports paint scheme from the 1994 season.

While the scheme will feature different coloring and a few different design elements due to the profile of the modern-day NASCAR Next Gen race car, the scheme was inspired by the Kodiak machine that Schrader piloted to a fourth-place position in the NASCAR Cup (then Winston Cup) Series championship standings.

Schrader spent 267 races behind the wheel of the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in a stint that lasted from the 1988 NASCAR Cup Series season to the end of the 1996 campaign.

Schrader accumulated four NASCAR Cup Series wins during his Hendrick Motorsports tenure. In all, Schrader contested 763 starts throughout his 29-year NASCAR Cup Series career.

Elliott, the 29-year-old son of Bill Elliott (Bill Elliott raced against Schrader in his heyday), sits sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings after the sixth race of the season. The Dawsonville, GA native has recorded 19 wins in NASCAR Cup Series competition and secured the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2020.

The most recent win for Elliott in the NASCAR Cup Series came at Texas Motor Speedway, the ninth race of the 2024 season. Elliott will look to end a 33-race winless drought this weekend at Martinsville Speedway prior to heading to Darlington next week, where he will honor Schrader with his throwback paint scheme.
