Here is a bit of cool news about the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR announced on Wednesday that following the end of Stage 2 in the race, the field will pull down pit road and come to a complete stop as a moment of remembrance for the military that have paid the ultimate price for their country.

We take a lot of pride in the Coca-Cola 600 being the biggest celebration of all those who have served and who currently serve our nation’s military,” Speedway Motorsports Inc.’s President and CEO Marcus Smith said.

This comes in addition to the yearly tradition of every car carrying the name of a fallen soldier atop the windshield. The man who will be honored on Kyle Busch’s No. 18 car in the Coca-Cola 600 will be Army Sgt. Dale Griffin. Griffin’s parents — Dona and Gene — were on hand for the announcement.

“I’m overwhelmed,” Gene Griffin said. “I’m so thankful for everyone who’s willing to stop and remember those who paid the ultimate price. We’ve been so blessed with the relationships we’ve created here. We’ll carry this in our hearts forever.”
